Puffin & Whale Watch

Visit the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve.

A 90 minute wildlife extravaganza!

A blizzard of puffins and a carnival of whales – and the best hospitality you’re sure to find.  Home to over 2.5 million seabirds and one of the Atlantic’s most productive feeding areas for several whale species.

Gatherall’s Puffin & Whale Watch tour is based around the incredible Witless Bay Ecological Reserve. The Reserve is beyond compare in its ability to offer visitors a world class wildlife experience.  Sure there are other places in Newfoundland where you may spot wildlife, but no where else can offer such a consistently great wildlife encounter.

Nature Happens!

Depending on the season, there are incredible sights in store.
Amongst the 2. million seabirds that nest on the islands of the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, the islands are home to over 500,000 Atlantic Puffins – no wonder its the best place to see them.  The best time for Puffins is from mid May through to mid September.

The waters around Bay Bulls and the Reserve is a favourite feeding area for the annual migration of the Humpback Whales that make their way to the waters of Newfoundland each summer.   The whales have chosen this area because of the abundance of food in the nearby waters – one of the many reasons that this makes this the absolute best place to take your tour.  The peak of the whale season here runs from mid-June through to mid-August.

Early in the season – May & June – icebergs make their last stand in our cold waters before they melt away.  Sometimes, if the stars align, you may be lucky enough to encounter all three – puffins, whales & icebergs – in a single tour.

Of course it would be great if you could see everting in a single trip but you must remember that there are times of the season are better than others.

Gatherall’s Puffin & Whale Watch is the preferred supplier for most Tour Operators who regularly feature Newfoundland.  These companies have done their homework and continue to use Gatherall’s because of our ability to provide a real experience for their clients.
