Newfoundland Whale and Puffin tours.
Visit the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve.
A true wildlife extravaganza!
A blizzard of puffins and a carnival of whales and the best hospitality you’re sure to find. Gatherall’s Puffin & Whale Watch tour centres around the incredible Witless Bay Ecological Reserve. The Reserve is beyond compare in its ability to offer visitors a world class wildlife experience.
If you really want to experience puffins and whales in their natural environment, then why not visit them at home.
That’s right, the reserve is “The Home of the Atlantic Puffin”. With over 2.5 million seabirds including over 500,000 pairs of Atlantic Puffins, this is undoubtedly the absolute best place to see them. This is also one of the best feeding areas for whales in Atlantic Canada. There’s no better place to find them! If you happen to be visiting during the early part of our season, you will also find yourself at the end of Iceberg Alley. By the time these mountains of ice reach our area they have been intricately carved and crafted by the waves and rocks to create the most incredible shapes.
Your enjoyment and satisfaction matters greatly to us. For over 30 years the Gatherall family and crew have been delighted to share this incredible experience with travellers from the world over. The Gatherall family, crew and staff are committed to providing you with the best possible experience each and every time you visit. We know your time is valuable – and your vacation time always seems too short. We appreciate and thank you for taking a few short moments to consider including our tour as part of your Newfoundland vacation.
MAKE SOME MEMORIES.
Why we believe Gatherall’s
is the best choice …
There are so many reasons why we believe our tour is the absolute best experience.
First and foremost is that Gatherall’s Puffin & Whale Watch Cruise features the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve.

Depending on the season, there are incredible sights in store. Our coastal scenery is beautiful year round and is a treat in and of itself. Our cruise offers an incredible opportunity to experience wondrous seascapes, mighty cliff faces & pounding surf.
The waters around Bay Bulls and the Reserve is a favourite feeding area for the annual migration of the Humpback Whales that make their way to the waters of Newfoundland each summer. The whales have chosen this area because of the abundance of food in the nearby waters – one of the many reasons that this makes this the absolute best place to take your tour. The peak of the whale season here runs from mid-June through to mid-August. Whales may be spotted before and after the peak season but we consider these sightings to be a bonus.
The reserve is located at the end of Iceberg Alley. Early in the season, May and June, icebergs make their last stand in our cold waters before they melt away. Sometimes, if the stars align, you may be lucky enough to encounter all three – puffins, whales and icebergs – in a single tour. Of course it would be great if you could see everything in a single trip but you must remember that there are times of the season are better than others.
Why we believe that you should
choose our tour …
Sure there are many tour operators, and of course each one claims to be the best. We’d rather let you decide though.
